This bathroom has already gone through many changes since we moved in to this house. Recently, we decided it was time to completely gut it and start from scratch. When I found out that Home Depot wanted to work with us on this project, I got started with the planning! This bathroom still had the original white and blue tile from the 50’s and I could not wait to rip them out. I found a gorgeous tile that is similar to zellige tiles, which I love, but the Home Depot version fit better into our budget for this particular project. Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane to see what the shower/tub combo looked like before.
We started by ripping out all the tile, taking the mirror down, and raising the ceiling over the tub. The drop ceiling made the space feel so much smaller. I knew that had to go! Here are two pictures to show the space after we gutted it. Look at all that space!! It feels so much bigger now that the ceiling is all one height.
Another thing that took up way too much space... two regular doors. The previous owners used this space as a guest powder bath and bedroom bath. Since we have another powder bath, we decided to wall up the hallway door and make this a private bedroom bath. For the existing door, we decided to install a pocket door and this was the best choice for this space! It made such a difference in the overall functionality. We also chose to move the vanity and toilet space to the wall opposite the bath. This allowed us more room for the vanity. These changes really made the space feel better and it functions so much better that it previously did! Below you will see a few shots of the final project. I will be updating this post with more once our new vanity is in!
